What makes a boutique wedding venue?
We believe that the perfect wedding day is a combination of sophistication, style and character. But more importantly, your day should be a true reflection of you and your partner. That’s why not one wedding at The Trout Hotel has ever been the same. We prefer to tailor each boutique wedding to suit your exact wishes and needs.
Our tranquil riverside location provides a charming venue with glorious gardens, bespoke décor and a traditional, yet contemporary feel. The Trout Hotel is alo an an iconic link to the history of Cockermouth and the surrounding area. Our Victorian staircase has proudly stood the test of time and other features from the original 1600’s mansion of the Egremont Estate means that the location is brimming with grandeur and character.
Lastly, whilst beautiful interiors and comfort are important, we know that exceptional service can make memories last a lifetime. You shouldn’t have to deal with any stress on your big day and our team of experienced and friendly wedding staff are here to make sure of that. They are on hand to guide you through every step of your boutique wedding, whilst giving you enough space to enjoy the celebrations in the company of family and friends. We combine panache with peace of mind.
Rooms and guests
Exchange vows under the opulent canopy of the Wordsworth Room, the magnificent Derwent Restaurant or a beautifully dressed marquee. If you’d like an intimate ceremony or a more lavish one, we have the space to suit every scenario.
In recent years, the hotel has been lovingly restored with the wishes of prospective wedding customers at the forefront of the designs. We have designated spaces to hold your ceremony and reception, all boasting tall windows; period features and warm, modern touches. A separate dining room is dominated by grand marble fireplace and Murano glass chandelier, making it the perfect space to enjoy a succulent three course meal, specified to you and your guest’s taste.
Another option is a beautiful garden marquee complete with full bar facilities, dancefloor, a choice of interiors and full chandelier lighting. A wide range of entertainment can also be booked individually or on your behalf. We use a specialist company that is licensed all the way through until 12 midnight.
We can comfortably cater for 56 guests in the Derwent Restaurant, 26 in the Wordsworth Room and up to 150 in a garden marquee. Once you’ve decided on your setting, we’ll work with you to create the perfect setting.
Food and drink
The Derwent Restaurant holds an AA Rosette for its exceptional culinary offerings. The substantial repertoire of dishes is created using the finest local produce around. And to say that the chefs have a passion for food would be an understatement. You may know that the AA Rosette scheme is one of the most highly regarded in the UK, but did you know that only about 10% of all restaurants in Britain have secured the award?

From the outstanding quality dishes that are beautiful presented to the skill and understanding that goes into making them, we strive to take your taste buds on a journey of delight. Our sample menu boasts everything from Caramelised Scallops to Cumbrian Fillet Steak and Chestnut Mushroom Arancini. We also realise that you may have something different in mind which is why we’d be happy to cater to your exact needs.
We don’t use mass catering techniques when preparing a wedding breakfast. All of our dishes and hand crafted and produced exactly like they would in our award winning restaurant. So you can rest assured that the meals served on your special day will be of the utmost quality, freshest produce and prepared with the outstanding skills of our kitchen brigade.
You can also taste a wide range of champagnes, sparkling wines, wines and cocktails or let us recommend wines that are superbly suited to your food choices.
Continue the celebrations
When your day is beginning to draw to an end, The Trout has a choice of 49 luxury suites and bedrooms for you and your guests to retreat to. There will be no need to arrange taxis at the end of the night or for designated drivers to be chosen.
