Workington Golf Breaks

Known as one of the premier golf courses in Cumbria, we’d highly recommend that any avid golfers who stays at The Trout Hotel take the short drive to visit Workington Golf Club. Here, you’ll experience a cleverly renovated course and one of the Western Lake District’s best golfing destinations.

The challenging greens boast ample views of the glorious Solway Firth and Lake District fells but they’ll hopefully not distract you for too long. With plenty of natural hazards to negotiate, the course has been described as providing “imaginative” and “challenging” play, thanks to James Braid’s creative layout. What else would you expect from one of the finest golfing architects of our  time?

The course

The course itself does not have many ‘hanging lies’ however there are some steep contours to be negotiated in six out of the 18 holes. This makes for some challenging golf, with the 7th and 13th holes being rather demanding targets.

Whatever your golfing level, if you’re a novice or a putting pro, Workington Golf Course has been credited for its enjoyability throughout all seasons. And for those who might not want to step on the greens just yet, the club also has a practice area and a relaxing clubhouse bar for you to relax.

Our recommendation

To ensure your Cumbrian golfing break is of the highest quality, our recommendation would be to start the day with a freshly prepared breakfast of your choice before being driven to the course by our pre-arranged taxi. Some golfers prefer to have an early morning tee time, but we find that a good breakfast and a restoring lie-in in one of our large comfortable beds means that your mind has been given a chance to fully wake up and that your body is more flexible. This, of course, is completely up to you.
